The European Union’s European Capital of Culture panel will announce on July 15th whether Three Sisters has been chosen as the European Capital of Culture 2020. Winning this prestigious title will have far reaching benefits for years to come. Three Sisters is competing against Galway and Limerick for the title. The Irish winner will host the European Capital of Culture in 2020 along with Rijeka in Croatia.

If Three Sisters is chosen, it will impress on a European audience the diversity of our beautiful and culturally–rich region. In addition, the European Capitals of Culture initiative can also help rejuvenate areas, raise their profile across Europe and the globe, and significantly boost tourism.

In 2005, Cork was named European Capital of Culture. Our neighbouring city saw huge benefits such as…

  • 38% visitor increase
  • 28% revenue increase
  • 1 million people attending events
